21 projects are selected for this year’s edition of Doc Lab POLAND organized by the Wladyslaw Slesicki Film Foundation. The many internationally-known Polish filmmakers in attendance with projects include Eliza Kubarska, Pawel Chorzepa, Piotr Bernas and Matej Bobrik.
The first 2021 session will be held in Warsaw in April (online or in a hybrid mode) while the second session (DOCS TO START, DOCS TO GO! with pitches and individual meetings) is planned offline for Krakow Film Festival (May 30 to June 6) as part of the KFF Industry.
“We are glad, despite the pandemic, that a lot of projects by Polish filmmakers are still being developed,” says Head of KFF Industry Katarzyna Wilk. “This year’s selection is very strong and we see a diversity of subjects. Surprisingly the filmmakers are focused not only on domestic topics – which might be obvious during the Covid era – but they go for more international issues and more universal stories. But they always remain very close to their characters – which is a distinctive characteristic of Polish documentaries.”
Launched in 2015, Doc Lab Poland has welcomed approximately 150 projects over the past six years, from which almost 50 internationally award-winning films have been made. The largest program of its kind in Poland, the event also includes open lectures during the Warsaw Film Festival.
