Fifty-five projects have been selected for presentation to industry partners at the 16th edition of Sheffield DocFest’s flagship pitching forum, the MeetMarket (9-11 June).
The projects “encompass a wide range of topics, themes, forms, stages of production (development through to rough cut) and are helmed by a mix of emerging and highly experienced and acclaimed filmmakers,” says the festival.
The MeetMarket slate comprises 31 countries of production/co-production including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Côte d’Ivoire, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong SAR China, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Lebanon, Martinique, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Pitching among many emerging talents are numerous acclaimed filmmakers and producers including Andre Singer (Meeting Gorbachev, Night Will Fall, Into the Inferno), Andreas Voit (Leipzig in The Fall, Time Will Tell), Diane Quon (Minding the Gap), Göran Hugo Olsson (The Black Power Mixtape, Concerning Violence), Kellen Quinn (Time, Midnight Family), Riel Roch-Decter (All Light, Everywhere, Shakedown, Rat Film), Sean Mcallister (A Northern Soul, A Syrian Love Story), and Sierra Pettengill (The Reagan Show, Cutie and the Boxer).
Comments Patrick Hurley, Industry Director, Sheffield Doc/Fest: “These are outstanding new projects, well on their way, that are set to inspire, excite and resonate deeply with audiences worldwide when they come to fruition. As always, our marketplace is a space for discovery. We are delighted to invite teams presenting their work to international partners for the very first time to pitch alongside many of the most experienced and accomplished filmmakers in our community.”
“During these times of restricted travel, it’s vital that spaces for meaningful connections remain open. We received extremely positive feedback from participants in our virtual market last year and are looking forward to facilitating a round of connections for these terrific new projects in June. Industry representatives from all territories with the capacity to support new work are welcome!” he adds.
22 ARTS TALENT MARKET TEAMS ANNOUNCED
Running in parallel to the MeetMarket, the Arts Talent Market (9-11 June) will connect 22 creatives and teams with industry representatives. The format of the work is an almost equal split between immersive VR/AR, and video art or installation pieces – the unifying factor being an artist-led, experimental approach. Participants include institutions such as the Tate, MoMA, ARTE, HTC Vive, SXSW, IFFR, MUTEK, and Venice Film Festival.
