Girls’ Stories by Aga Borzym, produced by Pinot Films
Five new documentary projects from Polish Docs Pro will be presented during Leipzig’s DOK Industry programme.
These are:
- Girls’ Stories by Aga Borzym, produced by Pinot Films: A story about being on the verge of becoming a teenager. We observe the world of adolescence, with all its ups and downs, through the eyes of two guides – 11‐year‐old Jagoda and 13‐years‐old Zuzia.
- Flight by Anna Zakrzewska and Łukasz Ronduda, produced by Kijora Film: A doc which tells of a spectacular sculpture, documenting not only the artist’s dramatic story but also the fate of a divided country after the presidential plane disaster in 2010.
- Pianoforte by Jakub Piątek, produced by Telemark: An intimate coming‐of‐age portrait of young pianists taking part in the legendary International Chopin Piano Competition. A unique chance of the lifetime portrayed from the backstage. An emotional rollercoaster with Chopin’s music in the background.
- Boylesque by Bogna Kowalczyk, produced by Haka Films: After the suicide of his best friend, Lula, an 80‐year‐old drag queen decides to take matters in his own hands and, once again, search for love.
- Beasts by Tomasz Knittel, produced by Raban Foundation: A film about a determined community which against all odds revolutionized football culture in Poland. AKS Zły (AKS Bad). Circus performers. Dreamers. Hooligans of Love.
“After a long time of staying online, we come back to the real events with extraordinary documentary projects from Poland,” comments Barbara Orlicz-Szczypuła, KFF Sales & Promotion Managing Director. “Again, we are bringing to Leipzig the delegation of Polish producers. DOK Leipzig was always very friendly towards Polish films, and I’m sure that the projects will find interest from the international industry. This is what we hope in Polish Docs PRO when supporting Polish professionals.”
This year’s DOK Leipzig program includes several Polish productions. Karol Pałka’s Bucolic is selected for International Competition, while Paweł Łoziński’s feature doc The Balcony Movie and Izabela Plucińska’s animation 98 kg will compete for the Audience Prize.
The short doc Light Years by Monika Proba will be competing for Best Short Film, as will the animations Crumbs of Life by Katarzyna Miechowicz and Impossible Figures and Other Stories I by Marta Pajek.
As every year, the DOK Market video library will feature a selection of the ten most interesting Polish documentaries.
Polish Docs PRO focuses primarily on a wide promotion of Polish documentary film industry at international events addressed to film professionals. It supports filmmakers and producers in developing their projects by facilitating access to the markets abroad, co-coordinating the trips of delegations to the pitching forums and co-production markets, organising the presentations of projects, production models and co-production opportunities with Poland, organising networking meetings, participation in lectures, panel discussions, workshops and training sessions.
