One of the awards season’s most high profile film events, the IDA (International Documentary Association) Doc Awards ceremony, will be rescheduled and held online Friday, March 4 amid rising public health concerns related to COVID-19 in Los Angeles County and beyond, the association announced January 6.
Originally scheduled to be held in-person in Los Angeles on Saturday February 5 2022, the next IDA Documentary Awards digital ceremony will take place on Friday March 4 2022.
The free online awards show will celebrate both the year’s top non-fiction films and programs, and “celebrate IDA’s 40th year of serving the documentary community,” event organisers underline. A separate event recognizing IDA’s Awards Honorees will be scheduled later in 2022. Further details will be revealed in coming weeks about this year’s ceremony, which organisers describe as ‘the world’s most prestigious awards event dedicated to the documentary genre.’
“The IDA Documentary Awards will convene the global documentary community online to celebrate the role non-fiction storytelling plays in contemporary society and to commemorate the organization’s 40th anniversary,” said Rick Pérez, executive director of IDA. “While so many of us had hoped this event would be held in-person, we now turn our attention to producing an exciting virtual show.”
Meanwhile, IDA members are currently viewing the nominated films in the Best Feature and Best Short categories, organisers confirm. Voting has been extended to Sunday February 13, 2022, 11:59 pm PT.
