Fourteen documentaries have been selected for the International Documentary Competition of the 64th Krakow Film Festival, including two productions from Poland. “Events you hear about in media, yet recounted from the personal perspectives of their heroines and heroes. Stories from places seldom ventured into and a fresh look on what seemed thoroughly familiar,” underlines the festival. The 64th Krakow FF runs May 26 to June 2.
Adds Anita Piotrowska, film critic and curator of the documentary section at the Krakow Film Festival: “We are going to take our audiences on a journey to places seldom visited or incompletely discussed – in history and media reports alike. From the state of martial law in Poland and the AIDS era in West Berlin, through the vibrant Naples, Russia under surveillance, to America in the opioid crisis, and Japan with its ‘evaporated’ people. We will encounter heroes living behind the closed doors of political prohibitions, guarded borders, and family secrets.”
