The winners of the Docs-in-Progress Awards were unveiled May 21 (Doc Day) during the event’s closing ceremony. The awards honour the most promising documentaries in the final stages of production and are highly esteemed within the documentary filmmaking industry.
Across eight showcases, each featuring four projects, 32 documentaries were presented via live pitches and 10-minute excerpts of rough cuts, to an audience of decision-makers, festival programmers, and sales agents. This year’s winners were selected by: Ana Alice de Morais, Rasmus Steen, and Opal H. Bennett.
IEFTA Doc-in-Progress Award
This award includes €10,000 cash prize and project follow-up by IEFTA – The International Emerging Film Talent Association. Winner: Only on Earth by Robin PETRÉ (Denmark, Spain). The Five Nordics Showcase.
Al Jazeera Documentary Award
This award provides Al Jazeera Documentary to come in as co-producer, with a minimum contribution of $15,000. Winner: Aliyá, Yeridá by Rafael GUENDELMAN https://www.marchedufilm.com/projects/aliya-yerida/ (Chile) – Chile Showcase
Hiventy Post-Production Award
This award includes €5,000 grant in post-production services, thanks to the participation of Hiventy, Technical Partner of the Festival de Cannes. Winner: My Father’s House by Mahdi FLEIFEL (Palestine, Denmark) – Palestine Showcase
Rise and Shine Award
For a project with the best international potential and no sales agent attached yet. The award consists of a €3000 cash prize awarded to the producer of the project. Winner: The Stationary Traveller by Fernando LAVANDEROS & Sebastián PEREIRA (Chile) – Chile Showcase
Alphapanda Award
This award provides two sessions of marketing consultancy with Alphapanda team members and the creation of an artwork for the film. Winner: Always by Demin CHEN (China, U.S.A.) – Doc by the Sea Showcase
Think-Film Impact Award
This award provides a strategic impact workshop and an impact pitching coaching session, given by the Think-Film Impact Production team. Winner: Dreamers by Imam HASANOV (Azerbaijan) – CIRCLE Showcase
DAE Award
This award includes free one-year memberships for the team, with all associated benefits, and a rough cut consultation with one of DAE’s senior advisors. Winner: Portrait of Friendship by Faezeh NIKOOZAD (Germany) – CIRCLE Showase
