DocsBarcelona Pro and ARTE, one of Europe’s leading cultural streaming services and core funder of arts-based documentary, have announced “a strategic alliance that strengthens the role of the professional market as a key space for promoting new documentary projects in the context of increasing complexity in sector financing,” organisers write.
The agreement includes the creation of the ARTE European Talent Development Award, a €10,000 prize that will recognize the best project in development at the DocsBarcelona Pro Forum, to be held from May 9 to 14 in Barcelona. “The award is part of a broader strategic commitment to directly support creators at the earliest and most critical stages of a project’s development,” organisers underline. In 2025, ARTE reached over 3.2 billion views, further expanding its influence across Europe. Today, it offers content in seven languages, including Spanish on arte.tv/es.
With this addition, DocsBarcelona Pro “consolidates a new line of direct support for emerging talent.” The ARTE award will be complemented by €10,000 from Al Jazeera Documentary Channel and €15,000 from 3Cat. In total, this year’s awards exceed €66,000, of which €52,500 is in cash.
Beyond the award, ARTE will actively participate in the industry program with an exclusive conference where it will present its strategic roadmap for the coming years, including co-production strategies and its European expansion plan, “at a time when the role of public broadcasters in the audiovisual ecosystem is being redefined,” the festival writes.

For us, it was essential not only to create spaces for exchange, but also to ensure that projects can access concrete financial support from the earliest stages. The involvement of ARTE, alongside Al Jazeera and 3Cat, reflects a clear intention to connect talent with three key international players that form a cornerstone of DocsBarcelona Pro.”
