FIFDH call for films: Sport as a catalyst for change

The International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) and the Olympic Refuge Foundation (ORF) are joining forces for a new initiative in 2027 and are launching a call for documentary films focusing on the role of sport amidst humanitarian crises. The deadline for submission is November 25 2026.

During a series of events in 2027, the two organisations are teaming up to bring powerful stories and conversations around sports and human rights to audiences in Geneva and Lausanne, Switzerland.

“In particular, we are looking for stories that demonstrate the role of sport in the lives of individuals or communities affected by humanitarian crises and/or displacement driven by conflict or climate change,” organisers write.

“Sport does not need to be the main subject of the film, but it must play a meaningful role in the story as a driver of change for the people or communities portrayed. Films about humanitarian crises in which sport plays no meaningful role, or sports films unrelated to humanitarian crises, will not be considered,” organisers add.

The call is open for completed documentary films of 52 minutes or longer, from all around the world, produced in 2024 or later.
