Vice has acquired worldwide broadcast and streaming rights to the documentary Pleistocene Park from international sales agent Java Films.
Produced by Jed Riffe Films and directed by Luke Griswold-Tergis, the film is described as “a captivating and entertaining look at Russian geophysicist Sergey Zimov’s project Pleistocene Park, an attempt to rewild a remote corner of Siberia.” Griswold-Tergis spent eight years filming father and son Sergey and Nikita Zimov as they scoured the planet for holdovers from the Ice Age and transported them, by whatever low budget means they could contrive, to their Pleistocene Park. During that time, he became very close to the Zimovs and ended up helping them on some of their missions.
Pleistocene Park was selected earlier this year for CPH:DOX, Hot Docs and Thessaloniki and has gone on to enjoy a successful festival run.
Kathryn Bonnici, Head of Acquisitions & Development at Java Films said: ”We are delighted that Pleistocene Park has found its home alongside some of the world’s best documentaries on ‘The Short List’. From the minute we saw the teaser back in 2019, we knew it was something special and worked closely with Luke, Jed and Maureen during the last three years of production. To have the finished film screen at festivals like CPH:DOX and Hot Docs and now made available to Vice’s global audience validates all their hard work.”
