Running 10-16 May The LUX Audience Week presents the three films nominated for the 2021 LUX Audience Award. Virtual screenings and a live Q&A with all three filmmakers (May 14, 17.00 CET) can be watched in most European territories (see luxaward.eu) through the LUX Virtual Cinema, available on Festival Scope.
The European public can vote for their favourite films until 23 May by ranking them on a scale of one to five stars, representing 50 per cent of the total vote. The other half will come from the votes cast by the Member of the European Parliament, where the voting process is also in progress.
The winning film will be announced at the LUX Award Ceremony on 9 June 2021, during a plenary session of the European Parliament. David-Maria Sassoli, President of the European Parliament, will present the award to the laureate in front of the MEPs, invited partners and representatives from the other nominated films.
The LUX Audience Award is presented by the European Film Academy and the European Parliament, and in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas.
“This year’s jury for the LUX – the European Audience Film Award by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, had the difficult job of whittling down the crème de la crème of European production to the final three candidates, such was the excellence of the entries,” says Mike Downey, Chairman of the European Academy and Honorary President of the LUX jury.
“In our selection we really wanted to award and highlight not only the best films of the year, but also those films which help to raise awareness of socio-political issues in Europe, all the while publicising and encouraging distribution of European films across borders in the European Union and throughout the world. It was great that there were so many strong and powerful documentaries, as well as fiction films, and that is reflected in our selection. These are truly world class, world beating European films from Europe – and all of them are winners.”
