Nominations for 2021 Doc Alliance Award announced, additional short film category

Doc Alliance, a network of seven of the most influential European documentary film festivals, has announced its nominations for the 2021 Doc Alliance Award – Best Feature Film and Doc Alliance Award – Best Short Film. Each of the festivals has chosen one feature-length film and, for the first time this year, one short (up to 30 minutes) by an emerging filmmaker from their most recent line-up. 

 

The prizes come with an €8000 cheque for the winning directors to spend on their new project. Additionally, each of the Doc Alliance festivals has committed to screen at least three films from the selection in its upcoming edition. 

 

The winners will be announced on Tuesday 13 July during the Doc Day Lunch at the Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes, as part of Cannes Docs, the Marché’s documentary-focused industry program.

 

The Doc Alliance festivals are: CPH:DOX (Denmark), Doclisboa (Portugal), DOK Leipzig (Germany), FIDMarseille (France), Ji.hlava IDFF (Czech Republic), Millennium Docs Against Gravity (Poland) and Visions du Réel (Switzerland). 

 

This year’s Doc Alliance jury members are Kristoffer Hegnsvad (CPH:DOX), Vasco Câmara (Doclisboa), Carolin Weidner (DOK Leipzig), Sandra Onana (FID Marseille), Pavel Sladký (Ji.hlava IFF), Ola Salwa (Millennium Docs Against Gravity) and Simone Späni (Switzerland, Visions du Réel).

 

A selection of the nominated films for the Doc Alliance Awards 2021 will be available on Doc Alliance’s platform DAFilms.com  from July 5 – 18 2021, including the features The Blunder of Love by Rocco di Mento and Macià Florit Campins’ Pedra Pàtria, as well as a selection of shorts such as Ricardo Moreira’s Terraformar anPéter Lichter’s Baroque Femina.
