Creative feature-length documentary projects and docuseries from the region of Central and Eastern Europe at all stages of development and early production are invited to apply for the 3-part Ex Oriente Film workshop 2022, to be held in La Rochelle and Ji.hlava (June an October 2022 respectively) and Prague in March 2023. The extended application deadline is now Monday, April 25.


The workshop timeline is as follows:

1st Session: Find Your Way – Vision, Space and Storytelling

June 18-22 2022 (La Rochelle, France, at Sunny Side of the Doc)

2nd Session: Production and Story Development

October 24-28 2022 (Ji.hlava, Czech Republic, at Ji.hlava IDFF)

3rd Session & East Doc Forum: Market, Here I Am!

March 2023 (Prague, Czech Republic, at the East Doc Platform and One World Film Festival)

The Ex Oriente Film was established in 2003 as the first training initiative for East European creative documentary film. Over the past eighteen years, more than 200 documentary projects from Eastern and Central Europe have been deceloed through the Ex Oriente Film workshop, including award-winning films at key international festivals, such as A New ShiftOver the LimitBrothersThe Domino EffectBlind LovesAt the Edge of RussiaRabbit a la BerlinVillage without Women and Bakhmaro.

The Ex Oriente Film 2022 lead tutors are producer and consultant Iikka Vehkalahti (Finland); specialist in international project development Mikael Opstrup (Denmark);  director and script editor Ivana Pauerová Miloševičová (Czech Republic), and director/producer Filip Remunda (Czech Republic).
