The BDC Discoveries programme has put out the call for project teams to participate in its upcoming 3-phase edition, running May to October 2024. The programme is designed for documentary filmmakers from the Balkans or international teams with Balkan-related projects and looking for collaboration within the region.
The deadline for applications is April 15.
BDC Discoveries 2024 takes place across 3 week-long modules:
- Belgrade, Serbia (mid-May 2024) during Beldocs, in partnership with Beldocs,
- Sofia, Bulgaria (end of September beginning of October 2024) during Sofia Documental, in partnership with Sofia Documental
- Leipzig Germany, end of October 2024 during DOK Leipzig in partnership with DOK Leipzig
The programme underlines its offer of:
- Ground-breaking and inspiring lectures from acclaimed worldwide professionals
- Ongoing project development in one to one meetings
- Hands-on workshops to approach a wider pool of partners and funders across the audiovisual sector and to analyse and reach your target audience
- A co-creative environment where you will experiment with the other participants and the experts on the development of your project
- Networking opportunities at three acclaimed festivals
- Pitching and awards
- Visibility and credibility for your project in the international market
BDC Discoveries 2024 is aimed at documentary projects in development with international potential and a cross-media angle, and accepts teams of producer/writer or producer/director. In exceptional cases, directors in search for producers could also be selected. Professionals can also apply as an observer if they are a representative of civil society organizations, broadcasters and/or funds connected to the Balkan region. Seven projects and 3 observers will be selected.
The workshop is conducted in English, so proficiency in written and spoken English is obligatory. The participation fee is 1000 EUR per team which covers tuition, accommodation and subsistence but not traveling expenses.
Eligible countries are: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey. Since 2022 the programme has also included Ukraine.
