EFA unveils the five Doc nominees for European Film Awards 2026

The European Film Academy unveiled November 18 the nominees for the main categories of the 38th European Film Awards. The winners will be revealed in next year’s award ceremony, presented by the European Film Academy and European Film Academy Productions GmbH, on January 17 2026 in Berlin.

The five Documentary nominees are:

  • Afternoons of Solitude Director: Albert Serra. Screenwriter:Albert Serra. Producer: Albert Serra, Montse Triola, Pedro Palacios, Luís Ferrón, Ricard Sales, Pierre-Olivier Bardet
  • Fiume o morte! Director: Igor Bezinović. Screenwriter: Igor Bezinović. Producer: Vanja Jambrovic, Tibor Keser, Erica Barbiani, Marina Gumzi
  • Riefenstahl Director: Andres Veiel. Screenwriter: Andres Veiel. Producers : Sandra Maischberger, Enzo Maaß
  • Songs of Slow Burning Earth Director: Olha Zhurba. Screenwriter: Olha Zhurba. Producers: Darya Bassel, Anne Köhncke, Kerstin Übelacker
  • With Hasan in Gaza Director: Kamal Aljafari. Screenwriter: Kamal Aljafari. Producers: Kamal Aljafari, Flavia Mazzarino

The Documentary nominees will also compete in the European Film category.

The nominations are based on the votes of 5,400 members of the European Film Academy who watched the films included in the annual Academy Shortlist. Now the Academy members will vote for the winners. Click here to see details of the voting and awards procedures..  
 
The selection is based on the Diversity & Inclusion Standards of the European Film Academy.

Last year, No Other Land (Palestine/Norway/US) by Yuval Abraham, Rachel Szor, Basel Adra & Hamdan Ballal, was named winner in the European Documentary category of the 37th European Film Awards. The film later went on the pick up the Oscar for Best Feature Documentary.
