Academy Awards documentary feature short list announced

Fifteen films, six from Europe, will advance in the 2020 Oscars documentary feature category after 159 films were submitted this year. The final shortlist of films will be announced January 13 ahead of the awards ceremony February 9 2020.

 

The six European films are:

 

Advocate: Rachel Leah Jones and Philippe Bellaiche (Israel/Canada/Switz) 

Aquarela: Victor Kossakovsky (UK/Germany/Denmark) The Cave: Feras Fayyad (Denmark/Syria/Germany/US/Qatar/France) 

For Sama: Waad al-Kateab, Edward Watts (UK/US/Syria) 

Honeyland: Ljubomir Stefanov, Tamara Kotevska (North Macedonia)

Maiden: Alex Holmes (UK)

 

Honeyland is also short-listed in the Best International Feature Film category (formerly known as Best Foreign Film).

 

For Sama (pictured) recently picked up the European Documentary prize at the 2019 European Film Awards.
