Five films are nominated in the 2026 BAFTA Documentary category, while one documentary is nominated in the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer category.
Nominations were announced Tuesday 27 January on the BAFTA YouTube channel. The winners will be revealed at the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards ceremony on Sunday 22 February.
DOCUMENTARY CATEGORY
The five films nominated within the Documentary category are:
- 2000 Meters To Andriivka by Mstyslav Chernov
- Apocalypse In The Tropics by Petra Costa
- Cover-Up by Laura Poitras, Mark Obenhaus
- Mr Nobody Against Putin by Pasha Talankin, David Borenstein
- The Perfect Neighbor by Geeta Gandbhir
In the final round all BAFTA film-voting member scan vote to determine the winning film. Mr Nobody Against Putin and The Perfect Neighbor are also nominated in the 2026 Feature Documentary Oscar.
OUTSTANDING DEBUT BY A BRITISH WRITER, DIRECTOR OR PRODUCER
Five films have advanced in the Outstanding British Debut category. One of these is a documentary:
- A Want In Her by Myrid Carten
- A jury determined the Outstanding Debut longlist and nominations, and will now decide on the overall winner in this category.
The 2026 BAFTA winners will be presented during the 79th BAFTA film awards ceremony, which will take place Sunday, February 22, at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Alan Cumming, the presenter and producer of The Traitors U.S., will host the BAFTA awards show this year.
In 2025, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui won the Bafta for Best Documentary.
