BFI Doc Society has put out the call to filmmakers looking for Feature Fund support. The deadline for submissions is noon on September 16 2022.
“This Fund aims to champion a breadth of bold and distinctive filmmaking across the UK with a particular focus on backing independent documentary filmmaking with bold cultural and creative ambitions,” write Fund personnel.
“With our funding, we are able to support the early careers of ambitious filmmakers, and take risks on new visions, form and content, prioritising work that recognises the value of difference in talent and perspectives. We also support more established voices,” they add.
Doc Society is a delegate partner of the BFI in receipt of National Lottery funding, enabling it to award funding to, and to support, the UK documentary sector to “fulfil the ambitions and objectives” set out in the BFI’s outgoing strategy, BFI2022. As this strategy comes to an end in April 2023, following an extension from April 2022 due to the pandemic, all the BFI’s funded partners are preparing to wind-down their BFI-funded activities.
Applications will be continually assessed during July, August and September. As Doc Society anticipates high demand, applicants are advised not to wait until the closing date to submit their applications. “The Fund will continue to support work at any stage of development, production or completion providing the work can be delivered by the 31st March 2023,” organisers write.
“If you apply for support towards archive research for a film, this research will need to be completed and evidence of the work having been done sent to us by the 31st March 2023, even if your film will of course not be ready for some time after that,” the notice adds.
