Leading sales outfit Cinephil has acquired worldwide rights to Shooting, the “bold” new documentary by acclaimed docmaker Netalie Braun. Following its world premiere at the 2025 Docaviv Film Festival, where it where it picked up the Special Jury Award, Shooting will commence its international festival journey at the Telluride Film Festival (August 29 to September 1).
“In Shooting, Braun delivers a bold, visually arresting trilogy that exposes how cinema is weaponized in Israeli society,” writes Cinephil in a press release. “Through three gripping true stories – a military re-enactment that displaces an entire village, a staged police raid endangering a Palestinian family, and a haunted military props supplier – Braun probes the dangerous intersection of storytelling, propaganda, and state power. Blending archival footage with immersive cinematography, Shooting lays bare the chilling collision of fiction and real lives.”
“Renowned for her acclaimed works Hope I’m in the Frame; The Hangman; Gevald and Oxygen, Braun continues to redefine the boundaries of documentary cinema,” Cinephil continues. “With Shooting, she interrogates not only the politics of conflict but also the role of filmmakers, audiences, and the ethics of representation itself.”
The film’s director Netalie Braun and producer Tal Barda comment: “We’re honoured to partner with Cinephil to bring Shooting to the world. In an era where the line between spectacle and violence is increasingly blurred, our film – examining the culture of weaponized cinema – feels painfully timely. Telluride is the ideal space to begin this conversation, surrounded by passionate cinephiles who value film as both art and reflection.”
Shooting is supported by YesDocu, Gesher Multicultural Film Fund, The Galilee Film Fund, Makor Foundation, Rabinovich Film Fund, and Alby.
Cinephil’s catalogue includes such notable docs as Flee, Collective, and The Gatekeepers. The company’s Shoshi Korman and Suzanne Nodale comment: “Fearless, unflinching, and impossible to ignore, Shootingdemands to be reckoned with. Representing stories like this is exactly what drives us—it provokes urgent debate and commands attention at every turn.”
