Seven new Polish documentary projects at various stages of development, production or post-production are presented today 29 April (11am CET) by the Polish Docs Pro delegation.
In Walk with Angels, directed by Tomasz Wysokiński, a hero of the fight against apartheid is looking for a baby abducted in the township of Soweto. The search leads him to the dark places of Johannesburg and the painful spaces of his soul. Produced by Piotr Kobus, the 84-minute fully-financed project is in post-production, ahead of a May 2021 delivery.
In Comrades, directed by Joanna Janikowska and produced by Kijora Film, three young Italians who believe that communism can repair their country, and possibly the entire world, must face their growing pains. A politically engaged “coming of age” film, the total budget is €100,000 of which €41,700 is still needed. The work is in post-production ahead of delivery in 2022.
Also produced by Kijora Film is The Novice, in which a group of young men give up on their existing lives and enters the Dominican Novitiate. What are they looking for? Spirituality? Life’s purpose? Community? Change? The project is in post-production with €26,000 of the total €73,000 budget still needed.
Krzysztof Dzięciołowski’s Meet The Ultimate Joker, offers up a profile of Jerzy Urban, “who gave us political spin, fake news and polarising politics long before Donald Trump, Andrzej Duda and Jair Bolsonaro were an itch in their daddies‘ pants.” The Vision House Productions 90/52’ film is in development and searching for broadcasters, financiers and co-producers.
Likewise in development is the €283,721 budget King Matt The First, produced by Pinot Films, that advocates preserving childhood, acknowledging the very essence of humaneness in children, trusting them and appreciating their openness and needs. Visual artist, director, and educator Jaśmina Wójcik’s work deals with “the (in)visibility and self‐representation of marginalized communities.”
Also on the theme of kids, Sylwia Rosak’s Lili is described as “a heart-warming story about a resolute 8‐year‐old girl exploring the world with her globetrotting father and growing up in an unconventional family.” At rough cut stage, €70,000 is needed to complete the €226,270 budget, with a mooted delivery date of January 2022.
Radka Franczak’s Lost Voice. Searching for Marcella Sembrich, produced by Silver Frame, tells the story of an extraordinary woman who broke the social rules and limitations that bound a poor girl born in Eastern Europe in 1858 and became one of the greatest singers of her times. Currently in production, the total budget is €190,000 of which €40,000 is still needed. The production is looking for broadcasters from Germany, France and Switzerland as well as sales agents.
The 11.00 CET session will be presented by Barbara Orlicz‐Szczypuła and Katarzyna Wilk (Krakow Film Foundation/Polish Docs) and Maria Gradowska‐Tomow (Polish Film Institute) and is open for all CPH Industry guests.
During the roundtables 30 April, (10.00 – 14.00 and 15.00 – 19.00 CET), Polish producers will meet the experts and decision makers.
