The 8th edition of Arché – Space for Thinking and Creative Development will take place October 12-20 during the 20thDoclisboa International Film Festival, running 6-16 October. The call is open for film projects in development. The deadline for submission is May 30.
Arché 2022 will also include project development workshops with Brazilian director Sergio Oksman and Spanish editor/filmmaker Virginia García del Pino among others, as well as a pitching session, one-to-one meetings with film professionals and other complementary activities. Participants will also compete for a range of Arché awards that aim to promote the films’ production and finalization.
There is also a May 30 deadline for projects applying for the itinerant RAW: Residencies Arché→Work programme. Organized by Arché and Márgenes Film Festival (Madrid, Spain), RAW includes the participation in the Arché and Márgenes development lab artistic residencies. This year, selected participants will also attend the 60th FICX – Gijón International Film Festival, thanks to a partnership between Arché, Márgenes and FICX.
Arché and RAW target emerging directors from Ibero-American countries and Italy with film projects that ‘encompass a strong implication in the domain of the real – projects that are able to experiment the potential and boundaries of their documental matrix,’ say organisers.
Projects can be submitted via the Arché website, free of charge. Arché is organised by Apordoc – Associação pelo Documentário (the Portuguese Association for Documentary).
Films that have participated in previous editions before enjoying successful festival careers include The Metamorphosis of Birds by Catarina Vasconcelos (Fipresci Award 2020) and Ghosts: Long Way Home by Tiago Siopa (Best Feature-Length Documentary Debut Film Award at Jihlava IDFF 2019 and Doc Alliance Award 2020).
In other news, the Nebulae industry programme of Doclisboa will feature France as its Guest Country in 2022. Running 11-16 October, the programme will be again presented in hybrid format. In 2021 Nebulae welcomed 650 attendees from more than 50 countries.
This year, industry activities will again feature networking events for national and international participants, presentations, and a pitching session for French projects in development.
