Docs Barcelona Industry handed out its pitch awards at the close of deliberations May 9. The awards were as follows:

  • DOCSBARCELONA BEST PROJECT AWARD: ADELINA by Aurela Berila. In 1990s ex-Yugoslavia, against a backdrop of political unrest, Adelina chronicles the journey of Adelina Ismaili, the Albanian pop icon whose transgressive performances captivated a nation. Prize: €4.500 
  • HBO MAX BEST PITCH AWARD: ADELINA by Aurelia Berila. See above. Prize: €2.000 
  • ACORDE MUSICAL SUPERVISION MUSIC LIBRARY AWARD: LORD, TAKE ME SOON by Guillermo F. Flórez. Carmen’s life has always been a Quixotesque comedy. Living through a civil war, being a nun, building a new life, divorcing in a conservative society, having several lovers and, most of all, never following orders. Now, after 86 years of adventures, Carmen is planning her suicide. Prize: €1.000 award and flat music license fees, valued at €295
  • PUBLIC PITCH AWARD ANTAVIANA FILM:UNTAMED LIGHT by Luis Sampieri. Antu is an eight year-old Spanish girl who was born blind. Together with her parents, she sets out on a journey through Argentina, touring small villages where her parents show community cinema. Prize: Post-production and finishing services valued at €3.000
  • ARTIST – IN – RESIDENCY PROGRAM AWARD JACOB BURNS FILM CENTER & WOMEN MAKE MOVIES: CONFESSIONS OF A FEMALE GAMER by Dolya Gavanski. An actress, the director herself, reluctantly cast as the voice of a cult heroine, discovers the complex inner lives of female gamers worldwide.
  • NEW TECH PITCH AWARD SÓNAR+D: FROM SCRIPTUM TO PROMPT by Cesar Urbina & Angel Urbina. An immersive journey through the history of humanity and the evolution of writing, from ancient clay tablets to dialogue with machines through AI prompts. An XR experience that allows us to travel back in time in first person while exploring historical places and interacting with our virtual hands. Prize: Project to attend Sónar+D 2024 with a personalized networking agenda.
  • NEW TECH PITCH AWARD METACAMPUS: I M U by Juul Van Der Laan. I M U is an interactive film installation in which I manipulate the viewer’s image through live deepfake. It’s a personal confrontation with the technology and a meditative intervention on what the self is. The main character of this generated short essay film is the viewer’s own self-image. Prize: a personalized agenda of meetings with potential investors.
  • FIPADOC AWARD: THE ALLEYWAY (MOSQUE) by Emmanuel Moonchil Park. Muslim students from developing countries have come to Daegu, South Korea, to pursue further studies. However, they encounter fierce opposition from locals when they try to rebuild their Mosque. Prize: Project to attend FIPADOC 2024
  • EAST DOC PLATFORM AWARD: CONFESSIONS OF A FEMALE GAMER by Dolya Gavanski. See above. Prize: Project to attend East Doc Platform 2025.
  • MIA DOC AWARD: ONE INCH EASTWARD by Irina Maldea. The decade after the end of the Cold War offered a unique chance for co-operation rather than confrontation between the two nuclear powers. The story of the disintegration of that dream is told through observing the relationships between the leaders of the US and Russia during that crucial decade. Prize: Project to attend Mia Doc Market 2024.
  • SAN SEBASTIAN LAU HAIZETARA AWARD: ADELINA – Aurelia Berila See above. Prize: Project to attend LAU HAIZETARA Coproduction Forum in 2024
