DocsBarcelona has named the ten film professionals who will be handing out the prizes of its three competitive sections in 2024.
The Official Docs&Pearls jury (see picture) comprises actress, playwright and director Silvia Albert Sopale (No és país per a negres, La moreneta); producer and programmer of DMZ Docs (South Korea) Hugo Jinseok Kang (Exile Trilogy); Greek director and producer Efthymia Zymvragaki (Ara la llum cau vertical) and programmer of Skopje-based MakeDox, Petrula Veljanovska.
The jury of the new Docs&Cat section, where nine Catalan productions will be screened, will comprise Chiara Boschiero, producer and manager in charge of the educational section of the Biografilm Festival in Italy; filmmaker Pau Faus (Alcaldessa, Fauna) and Sarah Lauzemis, member of the organizing team of La Mostra Internacional de Films de Dones.
The DOC-U section, which programmes university productions wihich premiere at DocsBarcelona, will have a jury made up of journalist and film critic Mariona Borrull, actor Moha Amazian (Calle Robadors, Jo Mai Mai) and Claudia Solano, ESCAC graduate and author of the documentary short film Paola, winner of the DOC-U award in 2022.
The 27th edition of the Catalan festival runs 2-12 May, while DocsBarcelona Industry is set for 6-10 May. Agent of Happiness, by Arun Bhattarai and Dorottya Zurbó, will open the festival on May 2.
