DocsBarcelona Industry will this year be presented online 18-30 May. Professional activities include a financing market for documentary projects, as well as conferences and round-tables and workshops.
Core to the event is a Public Pitch of 10 new documentary projects to the great and the good of global commissioning editors, film funds and sales agent, ahead of 15-minute one-to-one meetings with potential backers and partners. The deadline for new projects is 25 February.
The same deadline (25 February) applies to producers developing Doc (or non-fiction) Projects in a Series Format. Projects in early development stage, pre-production, production or close to the start of postproduction, from any nationality and about any topic, can apply.
The Rough Cut Pitch session enables four teams to seek remaining finances on their projects at a more advanced stage. Each project will make a 25-minute presentation. The submission deadline for Rough Cut projects is March 9.
The selected projects within the Speed Meetings programme will have 15 minute one-to one-private online meetings with financers and decision-makers. The meetings will be arranged by matching financer and rights holders’ needs, and will take place over 2 days within a schedule adjusted to the different world time zones.

The Spanish-language Campus DocsBarcelona celebrates its third edition in 2021 and this year aims to guide approximately 12 feature-length documentary projects through their initial stage, in order to up the ante in term of their international appeal. The goal is to direct them in their growth, bring them closer to the international market and offer them opportunities to get finance and become great films. The programme is mainly focused on projects from Latin American countries. The deadline for this has passed.
Development awards at DocsBarcelona 2021 are as follows:
DocsBarcelona Public Pitch Award is given to a project in development participating in the Public Pitch, with a cash prize of €2,500.
DocsBarcelona Speed Meetings Award is given to a project in development participating in the Speed Meetings with a cash prize of €2,000.
Doc Series Meetings Award is given to a project in development participating in the Doc Series Meetings with a cash prize of €1,500.
Music Library Award. Acorde Supervisió Musical, a division of Music Library & SFX, awards a cash prize of €1,000 and a flat music license fee valued at €295 to one of the documentary productions from the Rough Cut Pitch.
Public Pitch Award from Antaviana Films. A project from the Public Pitch will be eligible for the Antaviana Films Best Pitch Award, consisting of post-production and finishing services worth €3,000.
DAE Award for New Talent. This award aims to encourage and support young directors and producers. The prize is the annual fee of the DAE association for both participants in the Public Pitch or Speed Meetings.
FipaDoc Award. Through an agreement between DocsBarcelona and FIPADOC (Biarritz, France), a project from the DocsBarcelona Speed Meetings will be selected to attend FIPADOC 2022.
East Doc Platform Award. Through an agreement between DocsBarcelona and East Doc Platform (Prague), a project from the DocsBarcelona Speed Meetings will be selected to attend East Doc Platform 2022.
San Sebastian LAU HAIZETARA Documentary Forum Award. Through an agreement between DocsBarcelona and San Sebastian LAU HAIZETARA Documentary Forum, a project from the DocsBarcelona Speed Meetings will be selected to attend LAU HAIZETARA Documentary Forum 2021.
The Campus DocsBarcelona Award is given to the Best Project of the DocsBarcelona Campus, the prize is automatic and free participation for the Speed Meetings of the 2022 edition
