The 2020 East Doc Platform Award (sponsored by Current Time TV and valued at €5000 euros) went to Olga Zhurba’s Roma for “the filmmaker’s bravery with which she combines artistry and authentic storytelling.”

“Roma presents a compelling anti-hero, who at 18 years-old, has already understood more of the world’s loneliness and isolation than most his age, and older,” continued the jury citation.

The Special Mention went to Comfortable Century, directed by Jaroslav Kratochvíl and produced by Jaroslav Bláha. As the Jury stated, “this project renders an impressive and complete visual world of its own”.

Czech TV Co-production Award went to Nenets vs Gas (dir. Sergio Ghizzardi, prod. Valérie Montmartin). The award presents a financial investment of 150 000 CZK and a subsequent co-production deal. The Taste of Celibacy got the HBO Europe Co-production Award worth EUR 2000, presented by Hanka Kastelicová, the Executive Producer of Documentaries HBO Europe.

Two projects, How I Became a Partisan and Roma, received the new Ex Oriente Fine Cut Award and each received EUR valued at
1500 for editing consultations with renowned editors Miroslav Janek and Niels Pagh Andersen.

How I Became a Partisan also picked up the traditional Golden Funnel Award for the Ex Oriente Film project which made the greatest progress over the year-long training, as well as the new DAE Pitch Talent Encouragement Prize, handed by Heleen Gerritsen.

The 9th edition of East Doc Platform welcomed many industry professionals and filmmakers between March 7-13. Some parts of the programme were placed online, while others, such as the Awards Ceremony, had to be cancelled due coronavirus.
