Archive Day, EFM 2020 / Lia Darjes
With the full programme of EFM Industry Sessions due to be published February 17, ‘first insights’ into documentary events at the market include a second Archive Day on March 2 and a Meet the (Doc) Festivals one-to-one session.
As part of the European Film Market 2021, Archive Day will comprise a one-day online market platform featuring international archives in individual break-out rooms where representatives will meet with new and existing clients to showcase their footage libraries, discuss projects and conduct business, EFM announced this week.
Archive Day will be framed by online talks presenting international experts from the areas of production, archives and archival research to discuss topics such as international collaborations in and around archival research & rights management. Participating archives will be announced mid-February.
Berlinale 2020 saw the inaugural Archive Day, co-organised by Nadja Tennstedt of EFM’s Doc Salon and German archive researcher and producer Monika Preischl, who commented after the event: “The archives now know they are a segment of the market and are not standing alone outside. We connected, and there was a good energy.”
The Meet the (Doc) Festivals series of one-on-ones will grant EFM participants the opportunity to forge alliances with top (doc) festival programmers and market representatives, discuss current projects and gain insights into the programming and editorial focus of the respective festivals.
Other elements of interest to the doc industry include the EFM Start-ups programme, which returns to to EFM in an online format for its 7th edition, running March 1-5.
The selection will feature forward-looking start-ups – half of them founded by women from around the globe (Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Singapore, UK and the USA). The ten international professionals are invited to present their innovative ideas and practical tools for solving industry challenges on March 1 during an online Pitch Presentation, with a focus on development and production.
The start-ups will also take part in matched one-on-one meetings with industry professionals and other industry networking events.
Meanwhile, EFM Roundtable Sessions will be hosted by leading experts from the industry, and will look to facilitate discussions between participants with projects at all stages, and key-figures from the fields of production, sales/distribution, financing/funding and promotion.
“With its finger on the pulse of the global film industry, the EFM Industry Sessions will provide in-depth insights into current issues and future outlooks of the business for 2021 and beyond,” says EFM. “As part of a central column of knowledge, the sessions will also feature live opening and closing events alongside a host of conversations, workshops, presentations and community building formats covering all sectors of the industry.”
The full programme of the EFM Industry Sessions will be published on February 17 2021.
