IDF puts out call for 2020 Ex Oriente training

Institute of Documentary Film (IDF, Prague) has put the call for its 2020 Ex Oriente Film workshops.  


The workshops offer bespoke training for the development of film projects together with 30 world renowned film professionals and are designed for creative feature-length documentary projects and docuseries in development and early production, embracing challenging genres, format and media boundaries. We welcome filmmakers who conduct intense and engaging experiences and who change the way we reflect our reality,” say the organisers.


Lead tutors are producer and consultant Iikka Vehkalahti (Finland); Mikael Opstrup (Denmark)a specialist in international project development; director and script editor Ivana Pauerová Miloševičová (Czech Republic) and a director/producer Filip Remunda (Czech Republic).


Deadline for application is April 30th, 2020.

1st Session: Find Your Way – Vision, Space and Storytelling
June 21
 – June 27 2020, in a format of e-learning / online sessions


2nd Session: Production and Story Development
October 2020 (Jihlava, Czech Republic, within Ji.hlava IDFF)


3rd Session: Market, Here I Am!
March 2021 (Prague, Czech Republic, within East Doc Platform and One World IHRDFF)

The Ex Oriente Film programme leads into the co-production session East Doc Forum, where workshop participants will present their projects to Europe and North American decision makers such as independent producers, distributors, buyers, film fund representatives, broadcasters, as well as festival representatives. In addition to automatic inclusion in the East Doc Forum workshop, participants will have the opportunity to gain a wide range of scholarships and prizes in the form of direct financial support, co-production agreements, access to leading European markets and partner trainings.  

Successful Ex Oriente Film projects include Over the Limit (dir. Marta Prus), Come Back Free (dir. Ksenia Okhapkina), Rabbit a la Berlin (dir. Bartek Konopka), Bakhmaro (dir. Salomé Jashi) and Blind Loves (dir. Juraj Lehotský).
