Al Jazeera Documentary and AJB DOC Film Festival are inviting projects for the first ‘Al Jazeera Documentary Industry Days @ AJB DOC’ pitch event that will run in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) 9-13 September 2022. The event intends to support the expansion of documentaries worldwide, including international co-productions, and introduce exciting and valuable projects to key decision-makers.
The event will provide docmakers from the SEE, Caucasus and MENA region with an opportunity to network with decision-makers and leading professionals from both regional and international film and TV industries. “We aspire to help them secure funding for documentary production and support for their broadcast, distribution, screening, and sales worldwide,” say organisers.
The three-day event will be divided into:
- Main Pitch: for projects at all stages of development and aimed at independent filmmakers and production companies developing and raising finance for documentaries on topics such as various issues facing SEE, MENA, the Caucasus and, of course, the world, people’s diverse ways of life, social problems, history, Arts, culture, etc.
- Work in Progress: for projects in post-production that reflect the diverse world of SEE, MENA and the Caucasus today. Producers will have up to 15 minutes to present each project, including excerpts from the film.
- Balkan Star: for stories at development stage that are full of humanity, where individuals or groups attempt to challenge these problems and barriers. We wish to gather documentarists, filmmakers, journalists and media professionals with expertise on the aforementioned topics to offer a deeper insight into Balkan life as it currently is.
The submission deadline for projects is June 30.
AJD Industry Days @ AJB DOC plans to organize three-day meetings with authors of various projects. After initial presentations, the event will culminate in a series of one-to-one meetings.
AJD Industry Days also aims to become a key meeting place for projects from the Southeast Europe, Caucasus, the Middle East, and North Africa (MENA) regions.
Key benefits of the event also include “accessing a qualified and diverse professional audience, sealing financial deals, finding potential partners, meeting with other industry professionals,” say organisers.
