The DOK.edit Award honours outstanding editing achievements with prize money of 5,000 euros. It is part of the new programme focus Re:arranging Reality which revolves around the post-production of documentary films. DOK.fest München runs 5-23 May 2021.
To underline the importance of editing in documentary film, DOK.forum München, the industry platform of DOK.fest München, is this years awarding an editing prize for the first time.
The ‘DOK.edit Award – presented by Adobe’ honours outstanding editing achievements with prize money of 5,000 euros. It is part of the new programme focus “Re:arranging Reality”, which revolves around the post-production of documentary films. The programme focus is being developed in co-operation with Adobe.
“A film is made at the editing table. Even though the work processes are now digitalised, editing remains one of the most central and critical phases in the making of any documentary film,” comment DOK.fest München organisers.

Instructions for Survival (Editing: Agata Wozniak, Director: Yana Ugrekhelidze)

After 37 years under Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s people are finally demanding one thing: change. The young opposition leader becomes a beacon of hope. But the system of corruption and electoral fraud is deeply rooted.
A three-member international jury will discuss the films in public sessions. The editors of the nominated films will also provide insights into their work. Interested spectators can register for the free events from 20 April. The winner will be announced at an online award ceremony on 13 May.
As previously announced DOK.fest München, whose next edition runs May 5-14, has announced the 13-film shortlist for the fourth VFF Documentary Production Award, valued at €7500 and the first award in Germany to focus on the work of documentary film producers. (See BDE story)
As previously reported, the next edition of DOK.forum Marketplace will run 5 to 14 May 2021. The event is aimed at aspiring and experienced filmmakers from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and South Tyrol. The topics of the doc concepts and subjects are not bound by these regions.

The Master’s Pitch is a unique format for training and collaboration, initiated by Documentary Campus and DOK.fest München. In the form of a public pitching session, it offers up to 10 selected teams the opportunity to present their documentary projects to a jury of international commissioners and experts. Deadline Feb 1.
DOK.series Award from TELLUX and megaherz, valued at 2,500 euros for documentary film projects that are conceived as a series.
British Pathé Archive Award rewards the winner with British Pathé archive material worth 15,000 euros (or a cash alternative of 2,500 euros) and is devised for projects with a relevant proportion of archive material. Deadline Feb 1.
Pitch Award of Haus des Dokumentarfilms is valued at 2,500 euros and is for projects by students at the festival’s partner universities. Deadline March 1.
The German Composition Funding Award by Sonoton Music is worth 2,500 euros and rewards the best composition concept. Deadline Feb 1.
DOK.digital Award for New Narrative Formats (€2500) addresses the question of how new formats can be used to inspire a demanding audience, its aim ultimately to promote new innovative solutions. Young journalists, filmmakers, games designers and producers from German-speaking countries are invited to submit their projects by 1st February 2021.
The VFF Documentary Film Production Award honours courageous documentary film producers in Germany, who have committed themselves to their production in an extraordinary way. The prize is donated by the VFF Verwertungsgesellschaft der Film- und Fernsehproduzenten GmbH and endowed with 7,500 euros. Submission deadline: 1st February 2021.
DOK.forum is also relaunching the BY+QC Doc CoPro training initiative which enables participation for three emerging Bavaria-based producers in a two-year workshop programme between DOK.forum in Munich and Forum RIDM in Montréal.
