New sales agency Jambika Docs announces launch

Juan Solera and Jota Salinas of Jambika Docs

Juan Solera and Jota Salinas have announced the launch of Jambika Docs, a new boutique international sales agency specializing in documentaries and factual content. Based in Barcelona, the fledgling company represents “an inspiring portfolio of films that spark curiosity and connect with audiences worldwide. With a focus on quality over quantity, the company’s mission is to bring compelling non-fiction stories to broadcasters, streamers, festivals, educational markets, and more,” they write.

Co-founder Juan Solera (also Head of Acquisitions & Sales) brings over a decade of experience in documentary sales and production. Having represented titles like Cobain: Montage of Heck and Nomad: In the Footsteps of Bruce Chatwin, Solera has licensed hundreds of titles to major players such as Netflix, Arte, or the BBC among many others, he underlines.

Partner Jota Salinas “applies his expertise in finance and strategic planning to the operational and sales aspects of Jambika Docs. Transitioning from a career in renewable energy to cinema, Jota is passionate about connecting impactful documentaries with global audiences,” he writes.

The pair articulate their vision for the company, to curate “a diverse catalogue of films, ranging from specials to series, celebrating universal themes and dynamic storytelling. As filmmakers ourselves, we are committed to treating each project with care, offering transparency and detailed reporting to producers. By doing so, we aim to build lasting relationships rooted in trust and collaboration.”

Solera adds: ‘’We understand that audiences today are more empowered than ever, and they have the ability to choose exactly what they want to watch. This growing demand challenges us to represent high-quality documentaries that educate and also captivate through strong entertainment value.’’

Titles on the Jambika slate include Territory in which actor Darko Peric trades fame for the remote mountains of Kyrgyzstan, where nomadic shepherds share their territory with a ghost: the snow leopard. Amid stunning landscapes and rich culture, he finds a new perspective on success and life.

The Keepers is described as “a heart-warming documentary that follows the De Ruiter family as they navigate a 6-month honey bee season in Ireland’s stunning Beara Peninsula. This visually captivating film explores their passion for beekeeping, the challenges of working with nature, and the unique bond they share with their bees.”

Her Name is Nanny Nellie is “a powerful and poignant documentary that sheds light on the treatment of Aboriginal people in Australia’s history and the ongoing efforts to reclaim their identity and dignity. In 1925, the Australian Museum commissioned three statues depicting Aboriginal individuals—a child, a man, and a woman—displayed anonymously as relics of a ‘dying race.’ The woman was Nellie Walker, great-grandmother of Irene Ridgeway, who is now on a mission to uncover Nellie’s story.”

Salinas and Solera will be attending all the core doc events within the yearly calendar, such as EFM, Sunnyside, Sheffield and Docs Barcelona. “Jambika Docs is committed to engaging with the global documentary community,” they say. “These gatherings allow us to discover new projects, pitch our catalogue, and stay at the forefront of market trends.”
