From Friday 13 November until Thursday 26 November, Sheffield Doc/Fest will present its fourth and final programme of the 2020 festival – titled Ghosts & Apparitions.
“Since the first glimpses of the moving image, ghosts were haunting our imaginations, including those yet to be,” reads a festival statement. “A ghost from then meets a ghost from now – histories and collective memory are born. And cinema: the dismantling of frontiers.”
The programmes involves 13 films and artworks, representing nine spoken languages and spanning 12 countries: Argentina, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, France, Israel, Netherlands, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, and the USA.
Filmmakers and artists include the Israeli Jarman Award-winning interdisciplinary artist (and Sheffield Hallam University alumni) Oreet Ashery; the award-winning Canadian filmmaker Sofia Bohdanowicz and the experimental Portuguese filmmaker and scholar Paula Albuquerque, among others. The UK & Germany-based collective Keiken will present a live interactive experience from a virtual world on Saturday 14 November.
The Film programme will be available online to all UK-based public via Sheffield Doc/Fest Selects and to all Digital Industry Passholders internationally via Doc/Player, from 17:00 on Friday 13 November until just before midnight on 26 November. Select titles are also available to watch via MUBI over the same dates.
