MeetMarket, Sheffield’s flagship industry event for new documentary features and series, is open for projects. Now in its 18th year, the MeetMarket is one of the world’s most important markets and pitching forums for documentary and factual programming, and looks to connect docmakers from across the world with UK and international industry experts.
The call for submissions is open to all documentary filmmakers, both local and international, and applications are invited from established, emerging as well as first-time filmmakers.
The deadline for submissions is 16.00 February 17 2023.
“The Sheffield DocFest Marketplace is a major funding, sales and distribution platform of match-made meetings for collaborations and to unlock UK and international market opportunities. We offer a range of pitching and networking opportunities for filmmakers, creatives and production crew to present projects and themselves to UK and international industry representatives,” the festival writes. Additionally, Sheffield’s Film & Alternate Realities programmes are open for entries. The festival “welcomes new, completed films from around the world, as well as immersive media projects which push the boundaries of non-fiction storytelling.”
The festival screens 130+ feature, mid-length and short films within its Film Programme. The 2022 event included works from 55 countries, with 58 languages represented. The Alternate Realities programme exhibits and showcases innovative non-fiction and immersive documentary in all forms. Platforms considered for exhibition include virtual (VR), augmented (AR) and mixed reality (MR), 360 video, moving image, sound art, web interactives, artificial intelligence, games and performance.
“Whether using new technologies or creative techniques which break the boundaries of traditional documentary practice, the Alternate Realities programme highlights the bravest most intriguing developments in non-fiction by artists, technologists and documentarians,” the festival writes. The deadline for all Alternate Realities projects is 13 January, 12:00 Noon GMT.
The 30th edition of Sheffield DocFest is set to take place in-person from 14-19 June 2023.
