London-based sales agent Taskovski Films has announced its acquisition for international sales of Nemanja Vojinović’s ‘western’ documentary Bottlemen. The Serbian-Slovenian film will world premiere at the upcoming Sarajevo Film Festival in Documentary competition, and will compete for the Heart of Sarajevo award.
The film’s synopsis underlines how on the outskirts of Belgrade one of the biggest unsanitary landfills in Europe spreads across the remains of the ancient Vinča civilization – a former archaeological site of the European Neolithic. Plastic bottle collectors aka ‘bottlemen’ make a hard living from this toxic landscape, but now their vibrant community is facing a new and bigger threat…
Bottlemen is further described as “a homage to a vibrant, essential and yet largely invisible community, as well as an eco-western and a stark contemplation of where our society is headed.”
Comments director Nemanja Vojinović: “This is an ecological western, in terms of its cinematography, landscape, and characters, but primarily in its elements of an ongoing threat, the modernization which will forever change the life of the landfill community. The old world is changing and the new era begins.”
The 84-minute film is produced by RT Dobre Nade (Serbia), and co-produced by URGH! (Slovenia) and Set Sail Films (Serbia).
