The ninth Eurimages Co-Production Development Award for best pitch, valued at €20,000, was handed out March 31 to Biljana Tutorov and Petar Glomazić for The Last Nomads, a co-production between Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Belgium and France.
This year’s jury, composed of Anne Köhncke (Final Cut for Real), Vesna Cudić (Met Film Sales) and Eduart Makri (Eurimages National Representative for Albania), singled out the film, produced by Tutorov and her company Wake Up Films (Serbia).
The film’s logline reads how, “a tumultuous family drama unfolds as Gara (59) and Nada (13) defend their land set to become a military polygon, revealing layers of complexity that bond mother and daughter. The story of violence against women echoes in the violence against nature.”
Describing their motivation for choosing The Last Nomads, the jury commented: “We were impressed by this project which brings us to a place we didn’t know existed, a place of striking beauty and importance to humanity. A story of the human being in a David against Goliath battle, urgently reminding us not to lose our way in the fog of war.”
International sales on The Last Nomad are handled by Syndicado (Canada), who also executive produce the film.
The winner was announced Thursday, March 31 during the CPH:DOX Eurimages Award Happy Hour. A total of 15 projects competed for the award.
