Three docs so far selected as 2020 EFA Short Film candidates

The animated documentary Carne (Spain/Brazil) and the doc/fiction/experimental hybrid Past Perfect join In Between (Kosovo) in receiving first nods as candidates for EFA Short Film. Five fiction candidates were also submitted.

The short docs were nominated by the Valladolid International Film Festival, Uppsala International Short Film Festival and International Short Film Festival of Cyprus respectively.

Carne (12 mins), directed by Camila Kater and produced by Chelo Loureiro & Livia Perez, is an intimate animated documentary about five women sharing their relationships with their bodies.

Past Perfect, described as an experimental exploration trying to localise sadness, is directed and produced by Jorge Jácome, and written by Jorge Jácome and Pedro Penim.

In Between (14 mins) offers an empathetic portrait of families forced to live apart. It is written and directed by Samir Karahoda, and produced by Eroll Bilibani.

In total, 24 European festivals will submit candidates. When the cycle is completed, the participating festivals will nominate five short films from list.

Afterwards, the 3,800 EFA Members, made up of film professionals from across Europe, will vote for the overall winner that will be presented at the 33rd European Film Awards Ceremony in Reykjavik.
