Tonje Hessen Schei, Tommy Gulliksen and Bjarte Mørner Tveit
Producer Bjarte Mørner Tveit (The Mole) and director Tonje Hessen Schei (iHuman) have joined director/producer Tommy Gulliksen at Oslo Pictures to spearhead ‘major investment’ in the company’s future non-fiction slate.
The new doc triumvirate will focus on making international docs for the worldwide market. They are currently working together on Gulliksen ́s new feature doc Sound of Ice, plus five other non-fiction projects in production/development. Oslo Pictures will release its first feature documentary production, about Norwegian rap duo Karpe Diem, later in 2022.
“It feels almost unreal to be able to welcome Bjarte and Tonje to us. These are two people I have admired and respected for years. They have world-class ideas, experience and skills that I am really looking forward to experiencing up close,” comments Gulliksen, whose productions have won seven Gullruten (Norwegian TV) awards, and garnered a further 14 nominations. His Terror Island (2011) won the Nymphe d’Or at the Monte Carlo International Television Festival.
Tonje Hessen Schei’s iHuman (2019), Drone (2014) and Play Again (2010) have received international awards including Most Valuable Documentary of the Year at Cinema for Peace, the Golden Nymph, an Amanda (Norwegian equivalent of Oscar) and a Gullruten (Norwegiam Emmy eqivalent). Furthermore Tonje ́s films have screened at the UN and EU, Netflix and major film festivals worldwide. A co-founder of UpNorth Film, she is the recipient of The Chicken and Egg Award 2020.
“I have been a big fan of both Tommy and Bjarte for years and I am thrilled that we are joining forces! I am excited to work with such talents, and our combined experience and international networks set the stage for great adventures ahead,” says Hessen Schei.
Bjarte Mørner Tveit moves to Oslo Pictures from Piraya Film where he has produced documentaries for the international market over the past 20 years. His filmography includes the award-winning films The Mole and Cold Case Hammarskjold, both with acclaimed director Mads Brugger, as well as Inside Fur and The Secret Life of Pigs with director Ola Waagen.
“Producing docs on a high international level demands a lot from both team and partners. I love the projects in our slate, and I am super happy with the experience and ambitions of this core team. No doubt we complement each other, and the international team around us is such an asset. I am looking forward to introducing our new projects to partners both at home and abroad,” says Mørner Tveit.
In 2021 Oslo Pictures produced Joachim Trier`s feature film The Worst Person In The World that is currently nominated for two Oscars, for Best Foreign Film and Best Script. The film was in the main competition at Cannes 2021, where Renate Reinsve received the Best Actress Award.
