2022 Bafta documentary nominations unveiled

Bafta unveiled February 3 its 2022 nominations, which include documentaries across a number of categories:

 

DOCUMENTARY

  • Becoming Cousteau by Liz Garbus. Dan Cogan (prod). A look at the life, passions, achievements and tragedies surrounding the famous explorer and environmentalist Jacques Cousteau, featuring an archive of his newly restored footage.
  • Cow by Andrea Arnold. Kat Mansoor (prod). A close-up portrait of the daily lives of two cows.
  • Flee by Jonas Poher Rasmussen. Monica Hellström (prod). The extraordinary true story of a man, Amin, an Afghan refugee who came to Denmark at an early age as an unaccompanied minor, who reveals his hidden past for the first time.
  • The Rescue by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Jimmy Chin. John Battsek, P. J. van Sandwijk (prods). A chronicle of the enthralling, against-all-odds story that transfixed the world in 2018: the daring rescue of twelve boys and their coach from deep inside a flooded cave in Northern Thailand.
  • Summer of Soul (Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson. David Dinerstein, Robert Fyvolent, Joseph Patel (prods).  A feature documentary about the legendary 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival which celebrated African American music and culture, and promoted Black pride and unity.

OUTSTANDING BRITISH DEBUT

  • Keyboard Fantasies by Posy Dixon. Liv Proctor (prod). Beverly Glenn-Copeland, a black transgender musician, becomes a cult icon three decades after the release of his album Keyboard Fantasies.

ANIMATED FILM

  • Flee by Jonas Poher Rasmussen. Monica Hellström (prod). The extraordinary true story of a man, Amin, an Afghan refugee who came to Denmark at an early age as an unaccompanied minor, who reveals his hidden past for the first time.

EDITING

The EE BAFTAs will take place on Sunday 13 March will be broadcast on the BBC in the UK and around the world.
