Crip Camp by Nicole Newnham and Jim LeBrecht
Considered one of world’s most prestigious doc events, the IDA Documentary Awards were handed out at a virtual ceremony January 16. The Best Feature Documentary was named as Crip Camp. The Best Director award was handed to Garrett Bradley for Time while the Cinematography nod went to The Earth is Blue as an Orange. Dick Johnson is Dead picked up Editing and Writing gongs.
As part of this year’s ceremony, digital conversations with honorary award recipients were released during the week leading up to the awards. Sam Pollard (nominated in Best Feature Doc category for MLK/FBI) received the Career Achievement Award, Garrett Bradley was given the Emerging Documentary Filmmaker Award and David France received the Courage Under Fire Award for his work on Welcome to Chechnya.
Firelight Media’s Marcia Smith, Stanley Nelson and Loira Limbal earned the Pioneer Award while Regina K. Scully received the Amicus Award. Rappler’s Maria Ressa was granted the Truth to Power Award.
