DOK Leipzig 26: Polish doc delegation lands in Leipzig

Polish docs at DOK Leipzig

Five Polish producers will be representing six projects during DOK Industry as part of the Delegation Mix&Mingle/Round Table meetings. In addition, the project The Gap by Paweł Ferdek, will take part in co-pro meetings as part of the DOK Co-Pro Market. Additionally, eight films, five of which are docs, are selected for the festival, including three in International Doc Film Comp: Blossoming by Kamila Serwicka; I’m Painting a Self-Portrait, but All I See Is My Sister’s Face by Helena Stańczyk; and Letters from the Silenced Country.

“We attend DOK Leipzig every year. For two decades, we have been working to ensure that Polish documentary filmmakers are also represented at DOK Industry,” says Katarzyna Wilk of KFF Sales. “This is often the first place where they look for co-production and financial partners for their projects. This year, the Polish delegation will feature both experienced producers and those just starting out. They will be bringing primarily intimate stories to Leipzig, though sometimes with history and politics in the background.”

“I’m really looking forward to this year’s festival under Ola Staszel’s new leadership,” Wilk adds. “We’ve known each other for years and I’ve always followed her programming decisions with interest. I know she’s passionate about Polish cinema, so I’m sure we’ll see some excellent films from our country this year.”

The delegation to DOK Industry will include producers and directors representing the following selected documentary projects:

  • Jakub Klawikowski (ASF Studio) Projects: What a Coincidence? by Karina Kleszczewska. Inner Wild by Kama Czudowska.
  • Mateusz Kordyl (Lost At Sea) Project: The Best by Karol Lindholm
  • Agnieszka Iwańska (7Films) Project: Short Stories about Lucia by Agnieszka Iwańska
  • Aleksandra Szczęsna (No Prob Production House) Project: The Feast by Jarosław Sadowski
  • Małgorzata Wabińska (Entertain Pictures) Project: Patterns of Being by Małgorzata Wabińska

Eight Polish films, including five documentaries, will be screened at DOK Leipzig this year. The festival’s International Documentary Film Competition features: ‘Blossoming’ by Kamila Serwicka, ‘I’m Painting a Self-Portrait, but All I See Is My Sister’s Face’ by Helena Stańczyk, and ‘Letters from the Silenced Country’ by Andrei Kutsila.

Meanwhile, ‘Closure’ by Michał Marczak has been selected for the Audience Award Competition. The fifth Polish documentary, “Growing Up” by Adam Roszkowski, will be screened in the Young Eyes section and will have its world premiere in Leipzig. Find out more about the Polish films in Leipzig here.

The Polish Docs Pro delegation is coordinated by the Krakow Film Foundation.
