Echoes of Ji.hlava kick-off March 5 in Belgium

The official opening of the Echoes of Ji.hlava in the World programme will take place in the European Parliament (Brussels) on Tuesday March 5 with the screening (plus Q&A) of The World According to My Dad by Marta Kovářová. The documentary captures the joint dream of a material physicist and his artist daughter for an effective solution to save the planet.

The Belgian component of the Ji.hlava presentation is held under the auspices of H. E. Jakub Skalník, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium, and is supported by the Vysočina Region, Jihlava City and the Czech Centre Brussels.

March 6 will see the special screening for students at RITCS (Brussels) of Best Czech Doc winner Photophobia by Ivan Ostrochovský and Pavol Pekarčík, plus a masterclass by Ostrochovský. The director will also present his Koza (2015), plus Q&A.

On March 7, Lucie Rosenfeldová will give a masterclass at KASK (Ghent) and present 4 films from the Ji.hlava Shorts programme, plus Q&A. These are:

  • Wombs & Brains, dir. Lucie Rosenfeldová, 9 min
  • Darkroom, dir. Asli Baykal, 14 min
  • Bulunkul, dir. Marie-Violaine Brincard, Olivier Dury, 30 min
  • Under the sky of fetishes, dir. Caroline Déodat, 16 min.

Also on March 7 is the Closing Ceremony of the Ji.hlava IDFF in Belgium programme. Presented at the Prague House in Brussels, this will include a screening of Štěpán Pech’s You Will Never See It All, winner of the Best World Debut Award at Ji.hlava 2023.

Further Echoes of 27th Ji.hlava IDFF are planned to take place over the following months in Romania (March 8-19) , New York (April 15-19), Poland (April), Serbia (May 22-29) and Slovakia (Summer 2024).
