The winners at the Nordisk Panorama Film Festival 2022 were announced 27 September at the award ceremony in Malmö. In total 64 nominated Nordic documentaries and short films were nominated, and films were awarded across five competition sections (3 doc sections). Best Nordic Doc went to Nelly & Nadine. New Nordic Prize was won by Moosa Lane. Audience prize to A House Made of Splinters.

The third edition of the BFI London Film Festival Works-in-Progress showcase will present four doc projects by UK-based filmmakers. The in-person event will take place October 8 and will form part of the Festival’s UK Talent Days focus, screening exclusive extracts from each project. Clips will also be available online from 8-9 October via a secure platform to a pool of invited international industry professionals.

The DOC Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum will present a selection of 18 documentary projects divided into one-offs, series and products primarily intended for television or platform use. These projects come from 10 countries. Additionally, the event's new B2B Exchange Program is designed to support the Ukrainian audiovisual industry. Plus the MIA Buyers’ Club returns. The Rome market runs October 11-15.

The SHOUT LONDON Ashford Place Mental Health Film & Arts Festival, running 10-11 October to coincide with World Mental Health Day, has announced opening titles and its collaboration with ‘What’s Going On In Your Head’, a series of live events that explore the secret inner workings of the mind through performance and discussion.

Three diverse interactive projects will compete for the Digital Golden Calf during the upcoming Netherlands FF, the national celebration of Dutch audiovisual talent and output. These are Un(re)solved by Ado Ato Pictures led by Tamara Shogaolu, LAWKI (Life As We Know It) by ARK and Horizon Forbidden West by Guerrilla.

Regular registration deadline of October 5 to guarantee both on-site and digital access to the 8th edition of MIA which will take place between Tuesday 11 and Saturday 15 October in Rome. MIA Digital platform will allow catch-up on the most relevant parts of the schedule “anytime and from anywhere,” say organisers.

The UK-based company has sold the feature doc, boasting a stellar cast that includes Ian McKellen and Judi Dench and on which post-production is just completed, to Rialto Distribution for Australia and New Zealand, Signature Films for the UK and Ireland, and Vision Films for North America and all other available international territories.

“The European Film Academy stands in full support of the Iranian filmmakers protesting against the current wave of suppression spreading throughout Iran,” says Academy chairman Mike Downey following the publication of an open letter penned by the country’s filmmakers. “We abhor censorship in all its forms and fully support Iranian film makers fighting for survival in a climate of terrible repression.”

Overview of the nine new Finnish documentary projects were pitched during the 11th Finnish Film Affair which concluded 23 Sept in Helsinki. The top prize of €3000 was won by Mohamed El Aboudi (director and producer) and producer Kirsi Mattila for The Last Chapter. Read on for an overview of this and the other eight projects.

A new initiative in 2022 is the DOK Archive Market during which representatives from the leading European archives and footage libraries will present their collections, licensing costs and access modalities. Additional programme themes include a Ukrainian platform presented in association with Docudays UA and focuses on diversity and representation in the film industry.
