The festival programme will offer the ‘largest showcase of Filipino cinema in Europe,’ a reflection on Russian aggression in Ukraine and war as a theme, as well as new works by Armenian filmmaking legend Artavazd Peleshyan and Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa. Ji.hlava’s Inspiration Forum’s discussions will revolve around freedom, technology, the theory of degrowth and the situation in Ukraine.

The project development lab Arché will take place between October 12-20, in part during Nebulae, the industry programme of Doclisboa. This year, 12 projects were selected from 122 submissions from 19 Ibero American countries, plus Italy. The dozen projects in selection are at different stages of production, and hail from 10 countries.

The 2022 programme comprises 281 films, 47 of which are world premieres, and 44 Portuguese films. The 20th edition, running 6-16 October, is dedicated to Jean-Luc Godard. “A free and thought-provoking mind, committed and attentive filmmaker. We owe him the programme we present today and we celebrate his life in each screening,” say organisers.

During the 18th DOK Co-Pro Market 34 documentary projects from 32 countries will seek international financing and co-pro partners. For the first time, a series (The Sharp End of a Knife by Godisamang Khunou)is part of the selection. This year’s events will take place primarily on-site 17-18 October. DOK Industry will once again offer an online session for project representatives to prepare for the market.

Nine new international immersive documentary projects have been selected for CPH:DOX’s talent development and training programme, CPH:LAB. The participants will go through an intense development phase and be ready to present their prototypes at CPH:DOX 2023.

During the closing ceremony of the 5th AJB DOC Film Festival Gorki Glaser-Müller’s Children of the Enemy was awarded Best Film, while Special recognition was given to All that Remains To Be Seen by Julie Bezerra Madsen. The Al Jazeera Balkans Program Jury Award went to Peter Triest for A Parked Life with Marc Wiese’s This Stolen Country of Mine gaining a Special Mention.

With Philippine filmmaker, composer and writer Khavn taking on head tutor duties in 2022, Ji.hlava Academy is an educational, networking and inspiring platform open to emerging filmmakers in non-fiction cinema. Between October 25–29 the Academy will offer a creative lab for those dedicated to “making, reflecting upon or sharing contemporary films.”

The leading Czech documentary festival runs October 25-30 and offers up an array of industry events including the New Visions Forum, New Visions Market, the Emerging Producers programme and the Czech Joy in the Spotlight presentation of new Czech documentaries selected for the festival’s competition. The ‘early bird’ accreditation price of €100 is available until October 6.
