MIA market 2022 announces programme highlights
The DOC Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum will present a selection of 18 documentary projects divided into one-offs, series and products primarily intended for television or platform use. These projects come from 10 countries. Additionally, the event's new B2B Exchange Program is designed to support the Ukrainian audiovisual industry. Plus the MIA Buyers’ Club returns. The Rome market runs October 11-15.

RAI joins Global Doc Initiative, teams up with France Télévisions on nuclear fusion project
Italian pubcaster RAI announced October 12 its decision to join the likes of ZDF, Channel 4 and SVT in the Global Doc Initiative, and unveiled details of a new project on nuclear fusion, to be co-produced with France Télévisions. Both announcements were made at the MIA market, running October 11-15 in Rome, during an event moderated by the MIA Deputy Director and Head of Doc & Factual Marco Spagnoli.
8th MIA closes with 20% increase in participants
Over 2400 participants from 60 countries attended the Rome-based international audiovisual market which ran 11 to 15 October 2022 in the Palazzo Barberini and Cinema Barberini. The event generated million views on Twitter while MIA's facebook page followers grew by 27%, Linkedin by 23%. The event hosted more than 70 panels and events.
MIA doc feature pitch: Ghost Detainee…by Flavia Triggiani and Marina Loi
What is the moral cost of the War on Terror? Is it legitimate to violate the law in the name of national security? These are the two main questions tackled in the new doc feature, fully titled Ghost Detainee – The Extraordinary Rendition of Abu Omar and pitched at this year’s MIA market. “It is a spy film but also a reflection on what limits our governments can push to defend their own democratic principles,” the Italian doccers tell BDE.
MIA feature doc pitch: The Rossellini Method by Ilaria de Laurentiis
Directed and edited by Ilaria de Laurentiis, The Rossellini Method promises to be “an archive film portrait of the legendary Italian director: revolutionary, irreverent, contradictory, candid in life and art.” De Laurentiis edited the feature doc The Rossellinis, which was pitched at MIA 2019 and selected for Venice the following year.
