Docs Barcelona reminds doccers of its Feb 28 deadline for project submission to this year’s Industry programme running 23-26 May. The financing market has 3 different activities in 2023: the Public Pitch, the Speed Meetings and the Rough-Cut Pitch, all of which are open to projects from across the world. All DocsBarcelona Industry activities will be conducted in English.
Public Pitch
The Public Pitch is an in-person activity, which will additionally be live-streamed. A selection of 10 top-grade projects will get the chance to present in front of a panel of experts: commissioning editors, film fund representatives, sales agents, festival programmers and distribution companies from around the world. Each selected project will give a live presentation, screen its trailer and receive feedback from the panel of financiers.
Participation in DocsBarcelona Industry includes prior consultations with two renowned experts with the aim of perfecting the trailers and assisting the preparation of each pitch.
Furthermore, the projects will hold additional individual meetings with financiers, taking part in the Speed Meetings activity. These face-to-face or online sessions will have a duration of 15 minutes.
Rough-Cut Pitch
The Rough-Cut Pitch is an in-person and live-streamed activity during which a selection of 4 documentaries at a rough cut stage will get the chance to present in front of a wide panel of financers and industry experts from around the world, interested in projects in this phase of post-production.
Each selected project will give a 20 minute presentation, followed by 10 minutes of feedback from the industry professionals, who will have had prior access to the project materials including the trailer and the selected scenes. After that, the projects and the financers will hold individual meetings.
Speed Meetings
The Speed Meetings are in-person and online sessions, where 30 selected projects will get the opportunity to hold private 15-minute meetings with financers and other experts. The session’s time and date will be previously secured and will take place during the 24th, 25th and 26th of May. During the online meetings, the different time zones will be taken into account.
Selection process
A professional selection committee will evaluate the international potential, the quality, and the artistic approach of the projects. The committee will also consider the subject of the documentary, in order to ensure thematic diversity. The director and producer’s CV will also be taken into account – DocsBarcelona is looking for experienced filmmakers, as well as new talents.
