Toronto-based Lofty Sky Entertainment announces the sale of Jason Loftus and Eric Pedicelli’s investigative doc Ask No Questions to VGTV Norway for January 2021 broadcast. The film previously sold to Alhurra for the Middle East.
Directed by Canadian filmmakers Jason Loftus and Eric Pedicelli, the documentary examines the story of a Chinese state TV insider who is detained in a ‘Clockwork Orange-style brainwashing facility’ and forced to accept the government’s line on an infamous suicide by self-immolation that he believes was a government cover-up.
Notes on the production stress how a CNN reporter smuggled out footage of the event that day, but was muzzled by Beijing. Now her eyewitness testimony helps untangle an intricate conspiracy at governmental level as Chinese authorities put increasing pressure on the filmmaker’s family and business associates.
Ask No Questions recently won ‘Best World Cinema Feature’ at the Phoenix Film Festival in November and has been selected at several festivals across North America and Europe.
VGTV is one of Norway’s leading web-TV channels with around 450,000 unique visitors daily. “Ask No Questions is a timely, important and well told investigative documentary, and a very good fit for our profile,” said Andreas Sverdrup, Acquisition executive and Producer at the broadcaster.
On the sale, co-director Loftus commented; “We’re thrilled to be working with VGTV, we couldn’t have picked a better partner or time to premiere ‘Ask No Questions’ to a Norwegian audience.”
