On Monday 26 November Bellingcat – Truth in a Post-truth World Picked up the International Emmy Award in the Best Documentary category.
Producer Femke Wolting and director Hans Pool received the award during a ceremony at the Hilton New York.
The film is produced by Amsterdam-based Submarine.
Bellingcat – Truth in a Post-truth World follows the revolutionary rise of the citizen investigative journalist collective known as Bellingcat, a group of online researchers dedicated to exposing the truth of impenetrable news stories from around the world – from the downing of the MH17 plane in Ukraine to the notorious Skripal case in the United Kingdom.
From his Leicester home, De facto leader Eliot Higgins runs the operation out of his Leicester home, using cutting-edge digital techniques to create a faster and more innovative approach than traditional research journalism.
For the first time, Bellingcat investigators in Germany, the Netherlands, Finland and the United States gave exclusive access to filmmaker Hans Pool, allowing him to follow the group on their path to demonstrate the power of open source investigation.
Bellingcat – Truth in a Post-truth World world-premiered in IDFA Frontlight in 2018.
