The Fipadoc 2023 winners were announced January 27 as doors closed on this year’s event. The winners are:
- GRAND PRIX INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY: CROWS ARE WHITE (LES CORBEAUX SONT BLANCS) by Ahsen Nadeem. The €5,000 prize is given by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
- GRAND PRIX FRENCH DOCUMENTARY: SEEDS OF HUNGER – UKRAINE 1933 by Guillaume Ribot. The €5,000 prize is given by LaScam.
- GRAND PRIX MUSICAL DOCUMENTARY: NORTH CIRCULAR by Luke McManus. The €5,000 prize is given by La Sacem.
- THE INA madelen AUDIENCE AWARD: AUTISME, LE PETIT CHASSEUR DE FANTÔMES by Laurent Kouchner & Mickaël Mahut. The €5,000 prize is given by INA madelen.
- GRAND PRIX DOCUMENTARY IMPACT: FINITE, THE CLIMATE OF CHANGE by Rich Felgate. The award is doubly endowed by a €5,000 license fee toward the CNC’s Images de la culture catalogue, and a €5,000 prize givenby the Indarra Endowment Fund for the director.
- The SMART AWARD: THE MAN WHO COULDN’T LEAVE by Singing Chen. The SMART AWARD for best digital experience documentary focuses on its originality between the applied technologies and storytelling. It is valued at €3,000.
- THE DIGITAL STORYTELLING AWARD: 21-22 CHINA by Thierry Loa. Given by La Scam, the award is valued at €3,000.
- The Short Film Documentary Award: SAUVAGE by Léonore Mercier. Given by Enedis, the award is valued at €3,000.
- The NEW TALENT Award: LAST CALL by Noah Cohen. Given by France Médias Monde, the award is valued at €3,000.
- The TENK PRIZE: THE SILENCE OF THE BANANA TREES by Eneos Çarka. The director of the winning film receives €500 in prize money and his or her film will be streamed on the platform.
- The YOUNG EUROPEANS AWARD: TOO CLOSE by Botond Püsök. Given by Erasmus+ France agency, the award is valued at €3,000.
- The CINÉ+ AWARD: A HOLY FAMILY by Elvis A-Liang Lu. The prize is endowed by Ciné+ with €15,000 in license fee.
- MITRANI AWARD SILENT HOUSE by Farnaz Jurabchian & Mohammadreza Jurabchian (Iran, France, Canada, Philippines, Qatar). The Mitrani Award is endowed with a €3,000 prize by France Télévisions, which will broadcast the winning film.
- PFDM AWARD: THE GHOSTS OF OIL by Audrey Gloaguen. The award crowns the best French-speaking female filmmaker across the selections within International Documentary, French Documentary, Musical Documentary, Impact and Francophone Panorama. The €1,000 prize is given by the Association pour les femmes dans les médias.
- The COUP DE CŒUR DANS LES MURS AWARD is given by a jury of inmates from the Bayonne house of detention and rewards a film in the Panorama of French-speaking creation. Winner: SANKARA by Yohan Malka
