Visions du Réel (Switzerland) has put out its final call for films and industry projects for the 2021 edition running 16-24 April. Deadline is 22 December 2020 for films finished by April 2021 as well as for Industry projects.
Festival Sections are International Feature Film Competition, Burning Lights International Competition, National Competition, International Medium Length and Short Film Competition, Opening Scenes, Grand Angle and Latitudes. More information on festival sections
“The aim of Visions du Réel, International Film Festival Nyon, is to present films that, through their formal and aesthetic choices, provide personal and singular expressions and descriptions of past, present or future realities, freely interpreting the very definition of non-fiction filmmaking and its implementation,” read a festival statement in September 2020.
The final deadlines for the Industry projects within Pitching du Réel, Docs in Progress and Rough Cut Lab is 22 December 2020.
Pitching du Réel is Visions du Réel’s international co-production forum for creative documentaries intended for theatrical distribution and TV broadcasting. It offers the participants the opportunity to discuss the content and form of their project and to find out which contexts and markets might be the most relevant for it. It encourages international co-productions and helps to finance outstanding film projects addressing an international audience.
Docs in Progress, as part of Visions du Réel Industry, presents approximately eight films in their finishing stage. Via screenings exclusively to film professionals exclusively (festival representatives, funds supporting post-production, post-production facilities, distributors, TV buyers, etc.) and through specific individual meetings, the aim of this activity is to allow the projects stakeholders to find suitable partners finalise post-production, look for distribution, festivals, sales, etc.
As part of Visions du Réel Industry, the Rough Cut Lab invites four film teams, with a creative documentary at finishing stage, to present their rough cut to industry professionals in order to get specific feedbacks and advices. The idea is to support filmmakers at the moment of editing. Four rough cuts will be screened and discussed together with a tutor and a moderator, the film team and selected experts during a working session.
The Opening Scenes Lab of Visions du Réel Industry started this week. Thirteen young filmmakers, discovered during the Opening Scenes section of the last festival edition, have the opportunity to discuss their film and future with three renowned tutors.
The three tutors specially invited for the occasion are Claire Simon (filmmaker, France), Teboho Edkins (filmmaker, South Africa/Germany) and Luciano Barisone (documentary consultant, Italy).
The Opening Scenes Lab filmmakers are: Daphne Xu (A Thousand Year Stage), Rodrigo Muñoz (Le Prix du bonheur), Pauline Pénichout (Mat et les gravitantes), Lea Lanoë (On the Other Side of the Spoon), Adèle Shaykhulova (Sans vous, sans moi), Nikita Merlini (The Last One), Otávio Almeida (The Wolf Kids), Lala Aliyeva (They Whisper But Sometimes Scream), Tanguy Djaka Yarissi (Wakis, chasseur d’arbres), Yeon Park (I Bought a Time Machine), Kyungwon Song (Jesa), Julieta Juncadella (Prophecy), Alex Evstigneev (The Golden Buttons).
