Organisers of the 25th Ji.hlava IDFF have put out the call for submissions (feature-length and short films, animated and interactive documentaries) for the event running 26-31 October 2021.
The films premiering in Ji.hlava can be nominated for the European Film Academy Awards and festival winners are also eligible for Oscar® consideration in the Documentary Short Subject and Documentary Feature Subject categories.
Deadlines are: March 31 for films released in 2020, May 31 for films completed in 2021 and released by May 31, and July 31 for rough cuts and films yet to have their world premiere.
The EMERGING PRODUCERS workshop focusses on the training and promotion of talented European documentary film producers. The tenth edition of the programme will take place on October 25–29, 2021 (Jihlava) and in February 2022 (Berlin). The registration deadline is March 31, 2021.
Every year, approximately 17 talented producers are selected for the programme (plus one additional participant from a guest country – Israel). These fledgling film professionals will be immersed totally into the world of audiovisual production, promoted at major film festivals and connected with experts, mainly in the documentary field. The project also facilitates networking with producers from other countries, thus opening doors to prospective future co-productions.
Ji.hlava also flags up its EMERGING PRODUCERS portal which features 168 leading European documentary film producers, many of whom have already become successful internationally and collected awards at festivals across the world.
Additionally, East Doc Platform, organized by Prague-based Institute of Documentary Film, will take place online March 6–17. As previously reported, the third Ex Oriente Film workshop session, running during the East Doc Platform, announced names of its tutors, which include filmmaker and Ji.hlava Academy lecturer Anja Salomonowitz, director of the acclaimed Collective Alexander Nanau, and creator of social media video novels Maya Daisy Hawke.
Finally, streaming service DAFilms (run by Doc Alliance, of which Ji.hlava was a founder member in 2008) offers doc and festival enthusiasts the chance to explore diverse Asian cinema on a new domain: asia.dafilms.com. The launch includes a major online retrospective of Japanese independent filmmaker Kazuhiro Soda and Wang Bing’s Cannes-selected Dead Souls.
