Munich-based global factual content provider Autentic will present a new slate of summer releases – within the categories of current affairs, history, wildlife and travel – during Sunny Side 2026.
Furthermore, the company last week announced its acquisition of boutique distributor Albatross World Sales, which expands Autentic’s portfolio by more than 600 hours of premium programming, particularly in the nature & wildlife genre, as well as science, travel & culture, and history.
NEW SLATE
Autentic’s new current affairs slate explores urgent global issues, from Under Pressure – Trump’s Fractured America (52’, Tob Film), described as “a compelling portrait of a deeply divided United States under Trump’s renewed presidency,” to Digital Aliens – Excluded in a Connected World (52’, Hoferichter & Jacobs), which explores how digitalisation is driving new forms of inequality.
On the lighter side, Bargain Dealers (9 × 52’, GiUMa Produzioni) takes viewers into a bustling Italian vintage market where every object comes with its own story and a price.
In the History category, Autentic presents a selection of “powerful” documentaries ranging from the ancient world to modern history. Ancient Pompeii – The Secrets of Villa Oplontis (2 × 45’, Go Button Media with Autentic) uncovers one of the most luxurious villas of the Roman Empire. Auschwitz-Birkenau: The Forgotten Revolt (52’, 90’, Digital Images) sheds light on a remarkable act of resistance inside the concentration camp. The Apple Story – Selling the Revolution (52’, Spiegel TV) charts the rise of a company that transformed technology, culture and everyday life.
The Autentic offer also includes “blue-chip” wildlife programming, with the presentation of a range of “striking” works. Four new titles from Terra Mater Studios include India – Monsoon Kingdom (2 × 52’, Terra Mater Studios & Dandy Lion Films), which explores the deep connections between India’s diverse landscapes and wildlife; Wild Boreal (52’, Terra Mater Studios & Story Surge Films), a powerful portrait of life in the vast northern forests, Christmas in the Alps (52’, Terra Mater Studios) and Mallorca – Beyond the Beaches (52’, Terra Mater Studios). The Archipelago (2 × 52’, Boréales) takes audiences to remote island ecosystems shaped by powerful geological forces, while The Hidden World of Dolphins(52’, Marquardt Medienproduktion) reveals remarkable marine behaviour.
In the People & Places category, Suriname: The Green Heart of South America (2 × 52’, Brandmedia Film) explores one of the world’s least-known rainforest regions. The second season of Through Snow & Ice: Swiss Alpine Rail Journeys (4 × 52’, Mediafisch) returns with spectacular winter landscapes in the Alps.
The Autentic slate is further bolstered by the Science & Technology series Milestones of the Solar System (6 × 52’, Go Button Media for Autentic), first announced at the London TV Screenings this February, which traces the dramatic events that shaped our planetary system, combining cutting-edge science with cinematic storytelling.
AUTENTIC ACQUIRES ALBATROSS WORLD SALES
Autentic announced June 16 its acquisition of Leipzig-based boutique distributor Albatross World Sales. With this move, Autentic expands its portfolio by more than 600 hours of premium programming, particularly in the “blue-chip” nature & wildlife genre, as well as science, travel & culture, and history.
Anne Olzmann will remain Managing Director Albatross World Sales and will continue to work in acquisitions as the point of contact for producers. Going forward, the international distribution of the Albatross World Sales catalogue will be handled by Autentic.
Olzmann comments: “Building and growing Albatross World Sales over the past 16 years has been an intense and deeply personal journey, one that I have pursued with great passion. Looking at the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly consolidating market, I am excited to join forces with Autentic to create a future-proof and sustainable structure that strengthens the international sales capabilities and ensures the best possible long-term opportunities for the programs in the global marketplace.”
Adds Mirjam Strasser, Director Sales & Acquisitions at Autentic: “Autentic and Albatross share a long-standing and trusted relationship. Creatively and culturally, we are an excellent fit…By combining our strengths, we are creating a stronger offering that benefits both producers and buyers alike. As the market rapidly evolves toward digital distribution models, this consolidation enables us to respond more effectively to changing demands and creates clear advantages for all parties involved.”
“The growing importance of digital platforms, FAST channels, and social media distribution is significantly increasing both the editorial and operational demands placed on international distributors,” Autentic further stresses in its press announcement. “Investments in systems and data infrastructure are increasingly viable primarily for larger catalogues.”
The acquisition underlines Autentic’s “clear commitment” to high-quality documentary content. The Albatross World Sales catalogue includes numerous award-winning titles from acclaimed producers such as Altayfilm (Cactus Hotel, Going Nuts, On Thin Ice) and Marco Polo Film (Land of the Far North, The White Diamond, Beaches of Europe, Grizzly Encounters).
“The deal complements Autentic’s exclusive partnership with Terra Mater Studios, Europe’s leading producer of blue-chip wildlife programming, further strengthening the company’s position as one of the world’s leading distributors of wildlife documentaries, the most popular and in-demand factual genre worldwide. At the same time, the acquisition strategically enhances Autentic’s channel business within the genre,” the company writes.
SUNNY SIDE PANEL
In La Rochelle, Autentic Managing Director Patrick Hörl will moderate a panel titled New Revenue Streams: Rewriting the Distribution Playbook.
Description: The session puts two models in the room. On one side, a traditional distribution company with deep market relationships and a proven track record of maximising rights value. On the other, a platform operating outside the classical model – leaner, faster, built for the digital economy. The question is not which model wins. It is what each can concretely deliver for independent producers in 2026 and onwards in financing, in reach, in revenue.
The real opportunity lies in a closer alliance between producers and distributors. As new distribution channels multiply, the most agile independents are those who build partnerships early aligning rights strategy, audience intelligence and revenue expectations from the outset. This session maps what that collaboration looks like in practice, with straight talk and numbers.
Hörl will be joined June 22 (17.30-18.30, Conference Room) by Poppy McAlister, MD of TVF International, and Valério Motti, Managing Director of EMEA.
