The City of Donostia / San Sebastian Audience Award for Best European Film was won in 2020 by Maite Alberdi’s The Mole Agent.
The €20,000 prize goes to the distributor of the film in Spain.
The film is produced by Marcela Santibañez (Killing Animals) and executive produced by Julie Goldman, Christopher Clements and Carolyn Hepburn.
In the film, when a family becomes concerned about their mother’s well-being in a retirement home, private investigator Romulo installs 83-year-old Sergio as a new resident – and a mole – inside the facility. But little by little, Sergio struggles to balance his assignment with a growing affection for, and involvement, with the residents.
The Mole Agent was selected for World Cinema Documentary Competition at Sundance 2020.
